Comment: Incredible place and history and the highlight of our visit to St Augustine. Were grateful to historian Sheila who volunteered a musuem tour and history lesson to our family and other visitors. Our kids wished all history teachers were such great story tellers!Walking the beautiful park after brought awe at the incredible story of the spanish explorers and reverence to the first church missions, all for the love of God. We had little or no idea about the pilgrims and heros from Spain as were from Virginia:) but we do now.

Beautifully landscaped and lots of squirrels, birds, and lizards roaming the property. So much history to explore on the signs. The cross is such a beautiful site to behold. Really enjoyed this stop and wish that we had more time.

Comment: Very Beautiful Shrine! It was very awesome to learn this was the place where the first Catholic mass was held in the History of the Americas. It was also very cool to pray The Rosary or The Divine Mercy Chaplet at The Rosary Garden. Without any doubt The National Shrine Of Our Lady Of La Leche is a great opportunity to take advantage of. Have a great day, know God loves you, and God bless!

Comment: So awesome! Rich in history, a beautiful devotional for mothers and mothers to be. It’s so cool that the Spanish held Mary, especially such a motherly aspect of her, to such a high honor. Never seen anything like this anywhere else. I love that the garden is a rosary garden and it was so beautiful designed. Great work and attention to detail with the rosary. I will definitely be back.

Comment: This place always brings tears to my eyes. It is beautiful. Physically and historically. To think- after their long and arduous voyage across the ocean, the FIRST thing the Spanish settlers did was celebrate mass and praise God. I recommend visiting and celebrating mass yourself.I LOVE OUR MOTHER MARY, QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE! HELP OF CHRISTIANS!! PRAY FOR US!!!!!!!!!

Comment: Beautiful and serene. Please do keep in mind that regardless of your faith this is holy ground with both a chapel and many gravesites of the Nuns who once served the Lord there. So show proper respect. Meaning do not let your kids play on the headstones and run over their graves. That being said the grounds are beautiful, free to visit and provide some amazing history. There is plenty of shade on the walkways and the monuments there tell a story.

Whether youre a simple history buff or a Catholic but wants to know more about their faith, it is the place for you. I always stop here when passing through St. Johns County and I highly recommend you do the same if for nothing else to have some quiet time and relax.UPDATE: was here this past weekend and the chapel was air conditioned, which made the prayer time a little easier than in the past.

Comment: This is a beautiful place to visit. It has both historical and sacred significance, and wildlife abound. Its hard to find a better combination, and the price is right - free. Of course, a donation or a stop by the gift shop helps support the shrine, but no one will pressure you to do so.Take a walk through the garden, with reflections on the life events shared by Christ and his mother. Contemplate Mary as the nurturer and nourisher of a newborn baby Jesus.. Pray in a small reconstructed chapel. Consider the historical significance of one of the first Christian services in what is now the U.S. and the evangelical mission that followed. If you have time, join for a weekday Mass. It is well-attended and lively.

The chapel was amazing, even though we couldnt see the interior because it was closed. That gives me an excuse to visit again! A must for history buffs of all ages! And kudos for recognizing a few USCT soldiers. This was a first for me and Ive explored a LOT of historic cemeteries and churches, mostly in South Carolina, and seeing those headstones was an amazing moment. Well done St Augustine. Comment: Absolutely beautiful and peaceful. One of my favorite parts of my visit to St. Augustine. My husband and I walked the grounds, sat and prayed, and visited the gift shop and small museum afterwards. The chapel dedicated to the Virgen itself was closed until October according to a sign outside, but the rest of the experience was lovely. It felt as if you were in another world while walking the grounds, and not like the busy historic center was just minutes away outside the gates. We did not enter the main church, but it was open as we saw people exiting. Also, it looks like they are expanding to include a rosary prayer garden on the far end. While there wasnt active construction, there was a sign at the edge of the property. I would definitely like to return.

Comment: One of the most holy places to visit in the USA. I go here and instantly feel at peace. There is so much greenery and beautiful flowers and gardening to look at as you stroll through the park and listen to the birds. There are very old gravestones that are very interesting to look at and a lot of personal dedications to past loved ones. There are beautiful sculptures to see, a little museum inside with a quaint little shop. Everybody there has always been friendly to me and it is my favorite place to go for peace of mind.

I first visited the Shrine in 1988 with my first born, then returned 32 years later to give her thanks for all my blessings and sufferings! And one of our sons became a priest!!!

Comment: A very beautiful scenery yet peaceful place to visit. This was my 2nd time there and everytime it gives me a feeling of me not wanting to leave. The chapel is actually going to go renovation between May - October this 2021 but its so worth going and just having moments of tranquility. Cant wait to go back. Its also walking distance from restaurants and other touristy sites. Dont miss this place as something to cherish. They have a museum and gift shop.

Comment: The first Catholic/Christian established site in the US. This is a modern visitors site, set in natural surroundings, with actual historical artifacts (uncovered historical building foundations) and 1800s gravestones in place. Currently a US Catholic Shrine, open to all visitors without the commercialisation of most of St Augustine. A quiet peaceful, spiritual and religious place in a highly commercialized landmark community. The 200+ foot cross on site is easily visible on land or from any local boat tour.

Comment: Please come to The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche! I am Roman Catholic and this place holds a great particular importance to me in my heart. I have come back in pilgrimage here every two or three years since I live in South Florida and St.Augustine is my favorite city; of which every time I come I am fascinated and in love with it greatly. It is where our Holy faith first came to this land and should be held as sacred ground by all Catholics in The United States and beyond. It is so peaceful and is a wonderful place for spiritual contemplation and prayer. The museum is worth a visit to lean about the early Spanish/Native community and the development of the Catholic faith in Florida. The Chapel in the cemetery of Our Lady of la Leche is beautiful and is a good place to contemplate and pray. It is also recommended to go pray in the Church and pray before Christ in the tabernacle. I can say that I truly feel connected to this land of which some of my ancestors may have come and celebrated the Holy Faith and shared it with others. Also it is a place to celebrate our faith in the present day and sharing it with others around us of which is our mission. No matter where you come from or what faith you have, please come visit! It is truly wonderful. God Bless St.Augustine and Pray for us Our Lady Of La Leche!

Recently, I was honored to take her back to her most beloved place. If youve never been, please do. The history surrounding the shrine and the mission is not to be believed nor missed.

You can actually read a familys history . Exactly like the old cemetery on St. Simons Island GA. Fellow Catholics this gift shop is a MUST. I stock up on unique gifts at very low prices. You will see a picture on the wall of one of my classmates a fine pastor. And then take a walk down to the Cathedral as you pass the COLUMBIA HOUSE Restaurant in the Spanish Quarter.

We decided to visit the shrine to personally make our petition for the blessing of a child after so many years of trying. Our hearts are filling with hope and I must say visiting this beautiful little shrine just brought it together for us. Its an image straight out of a book and I recommend the visit a million times over. You dont have to be religious. The site alone, surrounded by its tall trees and historical markers welcomes visitors and allows for a peaceful experience.

Comment: The Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche is a historical gem, just outside of the downtown Saint Augustine area. The mission church was established long before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. Its purpose was to bring Christianity to the indigenous people and be a launching point to establish additional similar structures. The cemetary was old but well maintained. The Cross towers tall above, easily see from a distance over the water. A must see when you visit Saint Augustine!

Comment: Mission Nombre de Dios Rocks! Here, in September of 1565, Pedro Menendez de Aviles landed, claimed the land for Spain and for God, and kissed the crucifix handed to him by Father Francisco Lopez de Mendoza. Fr. Lopez celebrated the first parish Mass at the mission grounds, making St. Augustine the first Catholic parish in America. In the early 1600s the Spanish settlers of St. Augustine established the first shrine and devotion to Our Lady of la Leche. Mothers-to-be come from all over and pray to Our Lady of la Leche. Mass is prayed here every evening, Monday through Friday at 6:00 PM, after which the priests can be approached for prayers. Couples ask for intercession to conceive a child, to be good parents, for a safe delivery, Etc. Mass is also celebrated at the original little stone chapel on Wednesdays at 11:30 AM.

Comment: This is a beautiful little park and chapel on the water in St. Augustine. You can find it by following the giant cross in the sky. The little ivy covered chapel is beautiful. Its a peaceful walk through a very old cemetery. Nothing scary or creepy about it at all. Really nice.

Comment: The current location is not the original site of the mission, but it is the site where the shrine has been built and the cemetery of many who died serving St. Augustine throughout the years. The shrine is a quiet contemplative place that is in the center of the cemetery not far from the foot of the cross that represents the place where Spanish admiral Pedro Menendez de Aviles stepped on land. Its a quiet walk through the cemetery, and you may find people praying in the shrine.Light a candle, sign the book, and say a prayer yourself.

Comment: I had the pleasure of speaking with Father Ivan who is charge of this beautiful church. Father Ivan seems to be very spiritual, approachable and easy to speak with.
